Stumbled across this game and wondered if anybody knows anything about it.

Yes,i know about this game. Have been monitoring its development.

If I am not wrong the developers are looking for a publisher. They were also embroiled in a court case(it may have been resolved now)
The game is pretty much finished,or so i have heard.
But if there are no publishers then there won't be any release.

The game's development and commercial launch was certainly hit by the recession.(Check info regarding parent company)

Rumours & Speculation-
I have also heard that this game,Black Prophecy, forced JGE developers to go back to their drawing board to improve JGE because they realized Black Prophecy was better than JGE.

Many FL players might switch to this game when it comes out as it may have a "pay-once,free forever" payment model similar to Guild Wars and Freelancer where you just pay for the game copy and then play for free.
( Many former FL players primarily Disco players were found in the Black Prophecy forums.)

Anyway lets see how this game will turn out and what the payment model is.

Yep we're looking after both games, Black Prophecy and JGE. It looks like BP gonna be big enemy for JGE but I guess jumpgate will be more similar to Freelancer. Closed beta on BP at the moment, otherwise its possible the game will be released sooner than JGE.

just checked out JGE and it looks really good.

People are saying that it will cost around $12-$15 per month, but BP will be free but have hidden costs of having to buy special equipment etc.

So far JGE looks more my kinda game, but i'm not sold on it yet. anybody know some useful info about JGE?

Exactly, those "to be the best you need to pay!!" annoy a lot.

Unfortunately there aren't as many peeps in FL as it was to be some years ago. Sad case when you know that it's the best space sim game.

Actually Free to Play(F2P) isn't bad,it depends on what the micro-transaction model is based on.
A game like DDO(Dungeons & Dragons Online) Turbine North American servers has a decent F2P model where additional things you buy only improve your character to a limited extent. They also have a subscription model as well which balances their finance.

So we will have to wait and see the exact specifications of their payment model.

JGE does look like FL but BP may gain the upper hand as there is no F2P space sim MMO game.
So JGE would be directly competing against the likes of Eve Online for paid subscribers. That is a tough job.

And that is why I think the strategy adopted by BP could be better than JGE's in terms of payment model,even though it is riskier as it may backfire on BP if their micro-transaction model creates a big divide between those who have money and those who don't have money to spend.

anyways: signed up in hopes of getting beta keys for both BP and JGE, but BP is the one I would try if I should. And that is for one reason only: DEATH TO P2P!! GAMING TO THE PEOPLE! I mean, F2P will in 99% of the cases be as good as P2P.
