Bans for speed and turn related stuff

Post by Strail »

To put this plainly this is the situation.

Your movement is sampled by the anticheat a number of times, if you fail enough times you will be banned. The calculations include thruster, engine, turn, engine kill, persistent incorrect movement patterns. If you have packet loss over a certain threshold you will also be banned.

If you play the game normally, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

As mentioned before, its quite possible that the ban may scroll on the server console. As the anticheat does its calculations on a different core, it will wait for an approriate time to inject the ban into the server software, until this time it will scroll on console, making sure you know whats happening. This never happened before because players would just be killed by the server, not banned.Banning requires a different injection to the server than just killing.

To accomodate any potential issues there is both tolerance built in and samples taken over time. You will never be banned for one instance of a connection problem or one instance of speed related irregularities.

Now, I know some players are not happy about this, however, I would add that since the inception of banning players for this, the server load and the amount of resource that the anticheat uses has dropped considerably.

I fully understand if some players want to leave the server in light of what is going on.

Just been fighting ESF up in unkn 2 must be 15 of us in this battle if not more and you can see the improvents in the server. I mean the difference is just huge
And if I ever get banned for lagging, Ill deserve it for playing unfairly against the rest, Ill take my ban, sort out my PC and wont whine on the forums about it.

The only people that will get pissed are the people that can no longer cheat.

I can see myself lol'ing at the dramatic skill drop.

Sounds very good! Nice to know there are results :)

How does the new system judge lag? Is it by your ping? Because on a normal day, my Freelancer runs perfectly with no connection problems at about 350-360. I have never had complaints during PvPs saying that I am jumpy or anything, my ping just happens to be abnormally high. This seems very strange to me, but I have just put it down to me being in a far off distant country with an average connection.

It would suck (for me anyway) if there was a ping threshold that doesn't accomodate for my strange circumstances.

Just a suggestion for Strail:

To stop people posting "Can't connect" threads when they are actually banned, perhaps there should be a list of banned players on here that gets updated regularly. It may be a bit confusing for the new players that have been banned for bad lag, because they are unaware of why or if they are banned or not.

@Wolfie:

Good to know I've stimulated someones day :P
